Synthesis, growth and characterization of a new nonlinear optical crystal: Magnesium Chloro L-Tartaric acid (MCLT)
Author(s): B Malini and R Gandhimathi
Abstract: Thermal analysis demonstrated thermal stability up to 220 °C, and microhardness testing categorized MCLT as a soft material with reverse indentation size effect. Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) efficiency was measured at 0.73 times that of KDP, confirming its NLO capabilities. Third-order nonlinear optical properties were evaluated using the Z-scan technique, revealing a nonlinear refractive index of 4.728×10−124.728 \\times 10^ {-12}4.728×10−12 m²/W and susceptibility of 1.919×10−71.919 \\times 10^ {-7}1.919×10−7 esu. This study highlights MCLT's promising properties for optoelectronic and nonlinear optical device applications.
