Abstract: The physico-chemical status of ground water samples from Gohana block of Sonipat district was assessed. The major hydrochemical parameters to determine the quality parameters including pH, electrical conductivity (EC), Turbidity, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Alkalinity, Total Hardness (TH), Major cations (Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+) and anions (Cl-, F-, NO3-, SO42-) were analysed and compared with World Health Organization (WHO) Standards. The pH varies from 6.5 to 8.1. The EC value varies between 473 μS/cm to 9040 μS/cm in the ground water. TDS varied from 302 to 5785 mg/L. Sodium absorption ratio (SAR), (Sodium) Na% and residual sodium carbonate (RSC) values of the groundwater collected from the area varied from 3.22 to 37.55 (mmolL-1) 1/2,17.7 to 72.8%, -7.5 to 16.70 (meqL-1) respectively. Magnesium hazard and Permeability index (PI) ranged from 2.84 to 91.28 and 21.24 to 85.02 respectively. Kelly’s ratio ranged from 0.14 to 2.53. The analysis of various parameters indicate that the groundwater is moderately suitable for drinking and irrigation purposes.
